El Lagar Do It Center

In 2001, John Scheman, the founder and president of Grupo Do It, established the El Lagar Do It Center to supply construction materials and credit lines to a multitude of development projects in Guanacaste, Costa Rica. These projects encompass both commercial and residential constructions, including notable developments such as Guanacaste Airport, Peninsula Papagayo, Pacifico, Las Catalinas, Reserva Conchal, Hacienda Pinilla, 4 Seasons, Ritz Carlton, and the Waldorf Astoria among others.

In collaboration with El Lagar, the El Lagar Do It Center operates as part of a chain of 24 retail hardware stores distributed throughout Costa Rica, employing a workforce of 1,500 individuals. The center’s heavy material division imports construction materials from a diverse range of countries, including Asia, the United States, Brazil, Mexico, China, India, and various nations in Latin America. These materials are then distributed across Costa Rica to meet the demands of the local construction industry.

John is a pioneer who has contributed significantly to changing Guanacaste from an agricultural province to what it is today. His initiatives have not only boosted the local economy but have also helped to create thousands of job opportunities for the local population.
